*520  $aThe studies presented in this thesis were designed to investigate factors that decrease the effects of alcohol on behaviour. These investigations focused on two factors: 1) antagonism of alcohol's behavioural effects on rats using a chemical antidote; 2) a reduction in response to alcohol during the descending phase of drug action (acute tolerance) as a function of previous alcohol exposure.
