Anmärkning: Innehållsbeskrivning, sammanfattning
  • The book is written to provide school personnel, including administrative, teaching, and mental health staff, with information about the effects of alcoholism on families and children, and with a theoretical and empirical model for understanding these effects and for designing school-based prevention and intervention programs for COAs. Chapter 1 provides the theoretical model that guided the exploration of family alcoholism and the development of the ESCAPE Program. Chapter 2 contains a review of research about the characteristics of children and families affected by alcohol, and the efficacy of school-based prevention and intervention programs. The authors also provide the empirical basis for the intervention strategies inherent in the ESCAPE Program. Chapter 3 gives the practical and ethical guidelines for the development, implementation, and evaluation of school-based programs. Chapter 4 presents the ESCAPE Program, a curriculum-based prevention and intervention program. Chapters 5 and 6 provide additional resource materials that will assist school personnel in the implementation of the ESCAPE Program and in the development of similar programs.
