  • From a population study in 1984 in Stockholm, the association between four different indicators of hazardous drinking and the number of sick-days and disability pension at base-line, and during a follow-up period of 6 years, was studied. The main analyses were done for those 985 women and 870 men, aged 20-52 years in 1984, who answered a questionnaire (by mail or telephone) and participated in a health examination. In the other longitudinal study of this thesis, information from base-line about alcohol habits, social and psychological conditions, which were self-reported at a mandatory conscription of 49,321 young men in 1969/1970, was linked to information on disability pensions. The conscription cohort was followed for more than 20 years. (From the abstract)
