  • In this work two different instrumentations have been developed and evaluated. One is an image processing system for detecting textile fibers with specific color collected from e.g. clothes, car seats or bed sheets. This work is usually a manual, tedious procedure and mainly aimed at collecting enough fibers to be able to perform a more sophisticated analysis. The final objective of the investigation as such is to reach a statement if two textile items have been in contact with each other. The second instrumentation covered in this work is an electric nose for quantification of ethanol in breath. In contrast to the image processing system, there were already established methods for this analysis when the project was started. The goal of the project was partly evaluating the electronic nose but also, at the same time, to find new approaches to breath-alcohol analysis, regarding both sensor technique and data evaluation methods.
