  • The book describes a unique study on the usefulness of benzodiazepine tranquillizers given in conjunction with and compared to therapeutic counselling for the treatment of minor psychiatric disorders. The study was coordinated by WHO and resulted in important methodological advances. It demonstrated the possibility of making quantitative assessments of milder forms of psychiatric disorders in patients living in different cultures and of comparing such data. It also produced important data about the effectiveness of the treatments compared. Literature review. Literature on cross-cultural comparison s of effectiveness of psychotropic drugs. Description of materials and methods. Description of research centre and study area of Bombay, Ibadan, London and Tokyo . Rating scale for side effects (RSSE). Demographic description.
