*520  $aThe first chapter of the book deals with an overview of the relationship of the brain, stress and immune function, the second with and overview of psychological stress , immunity and immune depression. These chapters provide background information concerning the relationship between stress , immunity and the nervous system. The volume is then divided into groups of chapters dealing with individual categories of psychoactive drugs, such as studies dealing with marijuana and its components, cocaine and alcohol, as well as chapters dealing with miscellaneous drugs and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The group of papers concerning marijuana and immunomodulation also includes a description of binding sites for marijuana on human lymphocytes. The next group of papers describes results of studies concerning the emerging area of immunomodulation induced by cocaine. The effects of alcohol on the immune response is discussed in the next group of papers. There are then papers dealing with the AIDS epidemic and HIV infection, including the effects of stress and neurohormonal responses, as well as various factors related to malignancy associated with AIDS.
