  • In investigating ethanol metabolism of H. pylori and its significance to humans, the aims of the thesis were: 1. To study whether H. pylori contains alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase 2. To study whether H. pylori is capable of producing ethanol in vitro 3. To study whether H. pylori is capable of producing acetaldehyde in vitro 4. To test the effect of different drugs on H. pylori alcohol dehydrogenase activity and acetaldehyde production in vitro 5. To determine the effect of H. pylori infection on human gastric alcohol dehydrogenase activity 6. To determine the effect of Heliobacter infection on gastric ethanol metabolism using an animal model.
